Sometimes difficult to contend with, the single editing window has been broken up into two main windows, the Resource Editor and the Preview Window, and five small tool palettes, allowing you to customize your working environment to suit your design habits.
Enhanced Resource Editor
A number of keyboard modifiers have been added to the Resource Editor窶冱 operating structure, allowing you to switch tools and tool states in the middle of an operation without having to revisit the Art Tools palette.
Expanded Resource Editing
The number and kinds of resources available for editing has been greatly expanded. Designer窶冱 Studio now supports almost every resource found in a Kaleidoscope color scheme, including partial dialog support and full implementation of a PICT-creation environment.
Large cicn Support
Among the new kinds of resources available for editing are 窶徑arge窶 color icons, or cicns. Without custom patches, ResEdit allows cicns of only certain small sizes. Designer窶冱 Studio now supports full-size, custom-palette cicns of the type necessary for creating and editing Kaleidoscope 2.0 color schemes.
Command-K
So you can窶冲 find the resource you need listed in Designer窶冱 Studio窶冱 expansive, built-in menus? Create it yourself! Users of ResEdit will be familiar with the ability to create whatever resource they need with the command-k shortcut. Now this feature is included in Designer窶冱 Studio to allow for a smooth transition to Kaleidoscope 2.0 color scheme creation.
Deeper
We have more bits. Designer窶冱 Studio窶冱 Preview Window now displays resources in up to 24-bit graphics (millions of colors) for those extremely complex color schemes, and allows pasting and editing of full, 16-bit graphics.
New File Formats
Simple icons, full icon sets, icons applied to folders, StartupScreens, PICT clippings, color schemes with or without full sets of Mac OS 8 folders, and the soon-to-be famous Icon Installer. What do you want to create today?
Note: StartupScreens must be saved with the default "StartupScreen" name and placed in the System Folder to operate correctly upon restarting. PICT clippings can be used with either the Desktop Patterns or Desktop Pictures control panels: simply drag and drop your saved PICT clipping to the open control panel and choose "Set Desktop."
Smaller Resources = Smaller Files
Not only is Designer窶冱 Studio窶冱 support for file formats and different resources greatly expanded, its ability to save those resources in a compact file has been immensely improved. Version 1.1 would often bloat files with unnecessary information. This has been fixed and cicns and ppats are saved smaller than in ResEdit or Resourcerer.
New Preview Sets
Tons of new preview sets and previews have been added to the Preview Window pop-ups. Now every resource, in every state, is available for previewing or editing with one or two mouse clicks.
